Fun Things to Do in Miami With Kids This Summer

Miami with kids works best when you stop pretending the whole day can happen outside. Choose one warm-weather thing early, one indoor or water-based reset, and one easy meal.

Reliable family ideas

Frost Science is the most useful summer museum because it combines aquarium, planetarium, exhibitions, and enough variety for mixed ages. Miami Children’s Museum is better for younger children who need hands-on play rather than a long looking-and-reading day.

For outdoor time, use beaches and parks early. North Beach Oceanside Park, South Pointe Park, Crandon Park, Matheson Hammock, and Peacock Park in Coconut Grove all work better before lunch. Zoo Miami is a strong family day, but only if you start early and respect the heat.

In July, Freedom Family Days gives Downtown a free culture plan, while Florida Supercon is the big kid-and-teen fandom weekend. For July 4, North Beach is the easier family pick than South Beach.

Summer camps and structured options

Frost Science summer camp runs weekly programs for ages 5-15 from June 8 through August 7, 2026. Miami Children’s Museum also lists 2026 Explorers Camp programming for ages 3-14. These are useful not only for locals, but also for families spending a longer stretch in Miami.

Easy family routes

  • Museum Park route: Frost Science, PAMM terrace or Museum Park, then an early dinner.
  • Beach route: North Beach or Crandon Park before lunch, then quiet afternoon.
  • Coconut Grove route: Peacock Park, lunch, bookstore or ice cream, then home.
  • Little Havana route: Domino Park, snacks, music from the street, short visit only with younger kids.
  • South Dade route: Zoo Miami or Redland Market Village, then a simple dinner nearby.

What to skip with kids

Skip late-night South Beach crowds with younger children. Skip a Wynwood mural walk at peak heat unless everyone is genuinely excited and you have a food stop ready. Skip Everglades plans in the middle of a stormy afternoon.

The best Miami family day is not ambitious. It is early, shaded, hydrated, and close to a backup.
