Lisbon works well with children when the grown-ups stop trying to see Lisbon at adult sightseeing speed. Give the day one big thing, a clear lunch plan and a way home before everyone is tired. The city’s slopes, summer heat and long queues make this less optional than it sounds.
For a guaranteed half-day: Parque das Nações
Pavilhão do Conhecimento is the strongest hands-on indoor anchor for curious children. The Oceanário de Lisboa is the better choice when animals and spectacle will carry the day. Both are substantial visits; doing both is possible, but only with an early start, confirmed entry and children who still enjoy a second big experience after lunch.
For a lighter city day: one museum plus a park
Use the Museum of Lisbon’s venues as small cultural anchors, then add a park, playground or ice-cream pause rather than another attraction. Check the municipal agenda for workshops and guided activities; it is the only sensible way to promise an age-appropriate museum programme.

Ride public transport for the experience, take one short viewpoint walk, and make room for snack stops. Alfama can be magical with older children but demands patience on hills and paving.
