How To Use It

This is not a wild lake. It is a paid, managed Strandbad, and that is its advantage. Go when you want toilets, food, kid-friendly structure, and fewer unknowns.

Because it is farther north than the usual headline lakes, it can be a strong pick for Reinickendorf, Pankow, Wedding, or bike-based groups.

History And Odd Details

The name gives away the origin: Ziegeleisee means “brickworks lake”. The lake formed from old clay extraction connected to local brickmaking. Public histories of the lake connect the area to 19th-century brickworks; one especially fun claim is that bricks from the Lübars works were used for major Berlin buildings such as the Red City Hall.

That makes the lake a classic Berlin transformation: industrial pit first, summer leisure later.
