Straussee Swimming Guide

Straussee is one of the best east/north-east Brandenburg lake days from Berlin: clear glacial water, a town on one shore, forest on the other, and the unusual Straussee ferry cutting across the middle.

How To Use It

Straussee works best when you choose a side. The town side is easier for food and transit; the forest/opposite side feels more like an escape. The official data does not list WCs at the two cited bathing spots, so plan bathroom stops around town, gastronomy, or the train route.

Seenland Oder-Spree notes that the lake is glacial, averages just under ten metres deep, and reaches about 20 metres at its deepest point southwest of the ferry.

History And Odd Details

The fun detail is the ferry: Straussee is crossed by an unusual passenger cable ferry. That makes the lake feel more like a small resort landscape than a simple swim.

The town of Strausberg is named after the lake, not the other way around. The eastern shore is urban and practical; the western shore is forested, which is why the same lake can feel different depending on where you land.

Before You Go

Check the Brandenburg portal before swimming and check ferry/town logistics separately. If bathrooms are non-negotiable, pick a more structured Brandenburg spot such as Wandlitzsee, Liepnitzsee Waldbad, Wukensee, or Motzener See.
