Scharmützelsee Swimming Guide

Scharmützelsee is the polished Brandenburg lake day: Bad Saarow, spa-town history, sailboats, big-water views, and several official bathing entries. It is less “quiet forest swim” and more resort-lake plan.

How To Use It

Choose the bathing spot based on the day you want. Bad Saarow is the easiest if you want restaurants, spa-town atmosphere, and train logic. Wendisch Rietz is better if your plan leans south or resort/camping.

The official data lists WCs at the cited spots, which makes Scharmützelsee much easier for mixed groups than bare-bones wild shores.

History And Odd Details

Seenland Oder-Spree says Theodor Fontane called Scharmützelsee the “Märkische Meer” - the Mark Brandenburg sea. The nickname fits: the lake is about ten kilometres long, up to roughly 1.5 kilometres wide, and feels broad enough that it changes mood with wind.

Bad Saarow’s spa identity grew in the early 20th century. Public resort histories note that the town became known for mud and mineral-spring treatments, and the “Bad” prefix reflects that spa status.

Before You Go

Check the Brandenburg water-quality page for the exact spot. If you want a swim plus dinner, book or at least choose the restaurant area before arrival; Bad Saarow gets busy in peak summer.
