Nymphensee is a good “keep it simple” lake: pick a day, check the official page, and go west. It is especially useful if you are starting from Charlottenburg, Spandau, Moabit, Wedding, or the western S-Bahn network.
Because the official spot lists WC and gastronomy, it is a safer choice than many pretty but bare-bones Brandenburg shores. Still bring water and shade; a lake kiosk is not a whole emergency plan.
History And Odd Details
Nymphensee is a young lake, not an old glacial classic. The Brieselang municipality says the first small Nymphenteich was created in the early 1910s through earthworks for raising Finkenkruger Strasse, and the lake reached its current dimensions through later sand extraction connected to the Berliner Ring in the late 1970s.
The official bathing-water profile describes it as a groundwater-fed gravel-pit lake without inflow or outflow. That helps explain the clear-water reputation and the compact, triangular basin.
