Soul Festival on Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz

Alexanderplatz 1, 10178 Berlin, Germany

Soul Festival on Alexanderplatz runs for eleven days in June with live soul, funk, and R&B music daily, free to anyone passing through or stopping in. The stage setup on one of Berlin’s busiest central squares makes it more ambient than intimate — this is not a sit-down concert experience — but for a free outdoor music backdrop to an afternoon or evening, it works well.

Street food vendors set up alongside the music, which makes it a practical combined stop: eat, listen, watch the square’s foot traffic. Alexanderplatz is the transit hub of eastern central Berlin, so the festival is easy to fold into almost any itinerary. You don’t need to plan for it specifically; you can simply be nearby and step in.

The music runs through June 12 to 23, so there’s flexibility. Evening shows tend to have a better atmosphere than midday, when the square feels more like a transit interchange and less like a festival space. On warmer evenings, the outdoor setup with music works well for the crowd that happens to be there.

Use it as a short stop, then walk toward Museum Island, Hackescher Markt, or along the Spree. It sits about ten minutes on foot from each.
