Inselfest: 200 Years of Museum Island

Museum Island

Bodestraße 1, 10178 Berlin, Germany

Inselfest marks 200 years of Museum Island — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the core of Berlin’s major museum landscape — with a two-day festival across the island’s outdoor spaces and institutions. The outdoor program is free and covers concerts, guided tours, workshops, food, and family activities set against the backdrop of the Altes Museum, Pergamon, Bode-Museum, and the Spree.

The anniversary context gives this particular edition more weight than a typical museum festival weekend. 2026 is a milestone, and the programming is being developed accordingly: expect historical programming, performances, and special tours that go beyond what the institutions usually offer. Museum tickets are required for indoor access to the collections, but the outdoor festival program along the promenades and between the buildings is open without charge.

Museum Island can feel overwhelming as a pure museum day — five major institutions in one area is too much for a single visit. The festival format helps by giving you a natural structure: move between outdoor moments, dip into one or two collections, and treat the surroundings as a place to spend time rather than a checklist.

If the timing works, a food stop at KERB Berlin at the Humboldt Forum on the adjacent Schloßplatz fills the lunch or early evening gap naturally.
