48 Stunden Neukölln

Neukölln

Neukölln, Berlin, Germany

This is technically early July, but it belongs on the summer watchlist. 48 Stunden Neukölln is one of Berlin’s most genuinely open art formats: studios, courtyards, rooftops, and storefronts across the district become temporary exhibition spaces for the weekend. Artists are usually present, which means real conversations are possible — something you rarely get at a polished gallery show.

The scale can feel overwhelming if you try to see everything. The organizers publish themed routes on their website each year, which helps narrow the geography and gives you a through-line. Pick one route, walk it at your own pace, and let detours happen naturally. Some of the most interesting work turns up in places you’d walk past any other weekend.

Neukölln rewards wandering: there are good coffee spots, bakeries, and restaurants throughout Schillerkiez, Karl-Marx-Straße, and Rixdorf, so building a half-day or full day around the festival is easy. Most events are free to enter. Early July can be warm, so bring water and comfortable shoes.

Best for people who want art that feels embedded in the city rather than separated from it.
